Dr. Just Cebrian, Senior Marine Scientist, Dauphin Island Sea Lab (DISL) and Assistant Professor of Marine Sciences, University of South Alabama (USA), recently received a grant of $40,249 from the National Science Foundation to examine the effects of Hurricane Ivan on shallow coastal lagoons in coastal Alabama and northwestern Florida.

 Dr. Hugh MacIntyre, Senior Marine Scientist, DISL and Assistant Professor of Marine Sciences, USA, gave an invited seminar at the University of Southern Mississippi on "Benthic-Pelagic Coupling and Microalgal Dynamics in Shallow Waters "
 
Lindsey Kramer, a Master’s student at the DISL and the Marine Sciences Department, USA, recently won Best Oral Presentation and People’s Choice Award at the 2005 Graduate Student Symposium at Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium in Cocodrie, Lousiana.  Lindsey’s talk was titled “Has Protection Made A Difference? Fish Community Structure, Grazing Intensity And Coral Recruitment On Protected Patch Reefs.”
