Informal educators (e.g. Boys and Girls Club leaders, 4-H leaders,
Extension Service employees) and interested individuals are encouraged
to learn more about current issues and challenges that affect our
watershed and coastal habitat. A panel of top experts will present a
series of workshops on these issues, specifically tailored for those
individuals who interact with children and adults in informal settings.
"For those community volunteers and leaders who work with the public on
a regular basis, this is a perfect opportunity to learn more about
coastal issues that affect our everyday lives," says Dr. John Dindo,
Chair of K-12 Education and Teacher Training. "We have an expert panel
that will speak about our resources and the challenges we face managing
them. The size of the workshops will encourage personal interaction, and
that is a rare and wonderful setting."
Aside from a $10 registration fee, all expenses for the weekend will be
provided. Speakers include Dr. George Crozier, Executive Director,
Dauphin Island Sea Lab; Capt. Dave Yeager, Director, Mobile Bay National
Estuary Program; Dr. LaDon Swann, Director, Mississippi-Alabama Sea
Grant Consortium; and Mr. Tony Taylor, Naval Oceanographic Office.
The workshop will also offer field trips aboard the Sea Labšs A.E.
Verrill in Mobile Bay, and seining in a local salt marsh.
The Dauphin Island Sea Lab is Alabamašs Center For Ocean Sciences
Education Excellence.
