AAUS is nonprofit, self-regulating association, which is dedicated to
promoting safe and productive underwater scientific exploration and to
advance the state of underwater technology. The strength of AAUS is its
membership, with those institutions and individuals that pursue
scientific objectives beneath the water surface across the North
American Continent and beyond.

Mike Dardeau
Mike directs Marine Operations at Dauphin Island Sea Lab, a unit that
provides faculty and students with information, technology and services
related to coastal research. Although subject to almost any conceivable
demand, technical services are usually in the areas of vessel
operations, diving, wetlab services, field instrumentation and
laboratory analysis.
Beginning as a graduate student in 1978, he served as a dive team leader
and dive supervisor on projects ranging from zero visibility diving in
Mobile Bay to operations 100 miles offshore. As a diving safety officer,
he assumes administrative responsibility for DISL’s diving program and
acts as a liaison with American Academy of Underwater Sciences. He
oversees equipment purchase and maintenance, day to day diving
operations ranging from the Adriatic Sea to Panama, scientific diver
training and ensures compliance with AAUS standards. In addition, he is
a licensed paramedic, a diver medical technician and has provided
prehospital care as a volunteer, flight medic or industrial paramedic
for nearly twenty years.
