Contact: Lisa Young 251/861-7509 Faculty scientists and graduate students at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab played a large part in the 2003 Benthic Ecology Meeting, held this year in Groton, Connecticut. Professors who took part in presentations this March included senior marine scientists Dr. Kenneth Heck, Dr. Sean Powers and Dr. John Valentine. Sea Lab graduate students who gave presentations are: Derrick Blackmon; Julie Christian; Meg Goecker; Nancy Hilbun; Lisa Kellogg; Debbie Kilbane; Ryan Kroutil; Ryan Moody and Cheryl Wapnick. Ms. Hilbun was awarded Honorable Mention for her poster; Ms. Goecker won Best Student Paper, Oral Presentation. In 2004, the Benthic Ecology Meeting will be held in Mobile in March, hosted by faculty members of the Dauphin Island Sea Lab and the University of South Alabamašs Department of Marine Sciences. Dr. John Valentine, Senior Marine Scientist, Dauphin Island Sea Lab and Associate Professor, Marine Sciences, USA, will be the lead faculty member in organizing this meeting. Typically, the annual Benthic Ecology Meeting draws around 500 participants. |
