The research team of Dr. Monty Graham of the Dauphin Island Sea Lab will be
cruising the Northern Gulf of Mexico aboard the R/V Pelican conducting studies on the
growth, reproduction and feeding habits of jellyfish. They will complement their
research efforts with Dr. Grahamıs Science Education at Sea (SEAS) Program, which
brings students and educators aboard the vessel to learn the field component of marine
science research. The Pelican will depart on Thursday, August 15 and will return on
Wednesday, August 28.

This is the second of the Project SEAS cruises this year. Joining this trip will be
Delaina Pruett, 15, from Theodore High School; Kristi Broughton, 17, from The
Rock School in Mobile; and science teacher Joan Turner. Each will work on individual
research projects, emphasizing the scientific method, as well as keep a daily journal of
observations that will be posted on the web.

"It seems to me like the more I learn, the more I want to learn and that's what led me to
do anything I could to help my chances of becoming a marine biologist. I'm very excited
and hope to learn a lot," says Delaina.
