The Dauphin Island Sea Lab recently received a $50,000 grant from
ExxonMobil
Production Co., Mobile Bay Operations in support of its research,
educational and
public outreach programs at the Sea Lab.
The grant will go to support scholarships for high school students and
college students
during the summer, as well as funding research efforts for scientists;
displays at the
Estuarium, the aquarium at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab; and sponsoring
its annual
Discovery Day.
"We greatly appreciate ExxonMobil¹s support of all the programs we
conduct here at
the Sea Lab," stated Executive Director Dr. George Crozier. "The breadth
of what we
do, from touch labs for kindergarten kids to oceanographic research in
the Gulf of
Mexico, is astonishing, and ExxonMobil¹s support and recognition of
every facet of
our scientific and educational endeavors is highly gratifying."
"The Sea Lab has for many years provided a high-quality marine
environment learning
experience to thousands of school-age children and their teachers at its
Dauphin Island
facility," said ExxonMobil Field Public Affairs Manager Charlie Rowton.
"Because of
the caliber of its facilities and staff, we are extremely pleased to
continue our 20-plus
year partnership with Dr. Crozier and his staff."
ExxonMobil is the primary sponsor of Discovery Day, an open house at the
Sea Lab,
scheduled for Saturday, September 28, 10am to 2pm. |
