Dr. Peter W. Glynn
The faculty of The University of South Alabama's (USA) Department of
Marine Sciences and The Dauphin Island Sea Lab (DISL) are pleased to
announce the selection of Dr. Peter W. Glynn to be the ninth participant
in the Pete and Marty Wiese Distinguished Lecture Series. This endowed
lecture series, which began in 1994, is a gift from Fairhope resident
Mr. Peter Wiese, a generous supporter of the Department of Marine
Sciences at the University of South Alabama and the Dauphin Island Sea
Lab.
Dr. Glynn's, a Professor of Marine Biology and Fisheries in the
University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric
Science, selection was based on his sustained record of research
excellence in the field of coral reef ecology. His research activities
have drawn both national and international awards including the C.
Darwin Medal for Reef Studies; Sigma Xi Scientist-of-the-Year Medal; and
his designation as Scholar-in-Residence, National Center for Caribbean
Coral Reef Research.
Dr. Glynn will visit the DISL and USA campuses during the week of
January 7, and will present a free public lecture the evening of January
10 on the impacts of global warming and increasing ultraviolet radiation
on coral reef survival. The lecture will be presented at 7 PM in the
auditorium at the John W. Laidlaw Performing Arts Center on the USA
campus. For reservations, please contact USA's Department of Marine
Science at
