Dr. Monty Graham, Senior Marine Scientist at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, Will be presenting a lecture on the ubiquitous jellyfish populations of the Northern Gulf of Mexico.  Recent research indicates an increase of these stinging creatures locally and worldwide.  What are the implications for our local ecosystems?  How does this affect our commercially important fish harvests?  Dr. Graham will address these issues and much more in this free public lecture.

Dr. Graham recently organized the first-ever International Conference on Jellyfish in Gulf Shores, AL.  This exciting conference received national and international media attention from such news outlets as CNN, CBS Evening News and the Canadian Discovery Channel.  Come and hear first-hand why the simple but stinging jellyfish play such an important role in indicating the health of our waters.

Upcoming lectures in the Dauphin Island Sea Lab Public Lecture series include:

* Monday, August 14 - Marine Scientist Mike Dardeau, "Where in the World is Carmen, Alabama? GPS Technology in Today's World"

* Monday, December 4 - Dr. John Valentine, "Delta1s Dawn: The History and Ecology of the Mobile-Tensaw Delta"
