Contact: Lisa Young 334/861-7509 The beach isn1t just for fun -- it1s also an engaging educational tool, when you bring it into the classroom. A variety of teacher workshops will be conducted this summer at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, all designed for educators to plan a curriculum, appropriate for any age, where science comes alive using marine resources. Encourage life-long learners by using the wonders of the sea in your classrooms! June 25-29 - Coastal Connections. This fun in the sun workshop takes teachers into the Gulf of Mexico, collecting animals for their classrooms. A variety of field activities, boat trips and classroom projects will give teachers new science techniques. Teachers will also receive a 300-page multi-grade curriculum guide for their own classroom. July
9-13 - Grasses, Groupers, and Gastropods. This
workshop compares the diverse habitats from Dauphin
Island, Alabama to the submerged grass beds of Port St.
Joe Bay, Florida. Snorkeling trips to Panama City
and Port St. Joe will allow diversity comparison of the
plants and animals of the Northern Gulf of Mexico. |
