Faculty Positions

Dauphin Island Sea Lab is looking to fill two permanent faculty positions.

Title: Senior Marine Scientist I

The Dauphin Island Sea Lab (DISL) invites applications for two permanent faculty positions at the level of Senior Marine Scientist I (equivalent to Assistant Professor), although exceptional candidates may be considered at a higher rank.

We seek candidates who will complement the expertise of our current faculty, whose interests include marine ecology, fisheries, and physical, chemical and biological oceanography. The focus area for the first position is phytoplankton ecology, with an emphasis on the roles of phytoplankton in trophic dynamics and biogeochemical processes in coastal ecosystems. The focus area for the second position is marine ecology, including all the many aspects that regulate the ecology of estuarine and coastal systems.

Duties for both positions include establishing and maintaining a productive research program, teaching two courses per year, and advising graduate students. Competitive start-up funding is available. A Ph.D. must be completed prior to the start date. Post-doc experience is highly preferred. DISL was established in 1971 on the Gulf Coast as the marine science educational and research facility for the higher education system of Alabama, and has grown into a thriving marine laboratory (for more information visit www.disl.org). Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, a brief statement of research interests and teaching philosophy, 2-3 selected reprints, and the names and contact information (including email addresses) of 3 references to the Senior Marine Scientist Search Committee (smssearch@disl.org). Applications can also be sent through regular mail to Just Cebrian, Chair of Marine Science Search Committee, DISL, 101 Bienville Blvd., Dauphin Island, AL 36528. Review of applications will begin December 15 2011 and will continue until the positions are filled. DISL is an EOE/AA/M/F/D employer.
