Dauphin Island Sea Lab Director to Address Clinton School of Public Service

Aug 10, 2010

Dr. George Crozier, Executive Director of the Dauphin Island Sea Lab has been invited to give a talk on August 17, 2010, for the distinguished speaker series at the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service, located on the grounds of the William J. Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.

The Clinton School promotes a vision of world leaders who are able to work effectively with individuals and organizations to build healthy, engaged and vibrant communities, both in Arkansas and throughout the globe.

In addition to President Clinton, among the many distinguished lecturers have been former Secretaries of State Madeleine Albright and Henry Kissinger; Senator Bob Dole; Presidents Paul Kagame of Rwanda and Fernando Cardoso of Brazil; former Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar of Spain; Congressmen John Lewis and J.C. Watts; historians Taylor Branch and Michael Beschloss; CEOs Blake Mycoskie of TOMS Shoes and Lowell McAdam of Verizon Wireless; actors John Lithgow and Sam Waterston; and journalists Gwen Ifill, Rachel Maddow, George Stephanopoulos and Bob Woodward, among many more.

Dr. Crozier’s talk is titled “Well Intended Policy and Unintended Consequences: The Story of the Oil Pollution Act and the 2010 Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico.”

When asked about the subject of his talk, Dr. Crozier responded, "While hindsight is cheap, there is little doubt that the good intentions of the 1990 Oil Pollution Act went badly unfulfilled when actually put into practice twenty years later."
