Cocktails with Critters, the major fundraiser for the Dauphin Island Sea Lab Foundation, will be Thursday, May 5, from 6:00 pm till 9:00 pm at Tacky Jacks on the Causeway (formerly Oysterellas). This will be an exciting evening celebrating Cinco de Mayo, and we’ll be overlooking Mobile Bay and enjoying the flamenco-inspired sounds of Roman Street. For those seeking more thrills, there will be a fantastic silent auction. Tacky Jacks is pulling out all the stops and will be serving fabulous and tasty hors d’oeuvres featuring flavors from south of the border.

Entertainment: Roman Street Named Band of the year by Mobile Bay Monthly, Roman Street is an energetic band born and raised in Mobile. They play their own brand of fusion style music with a youthful and spontaneous approach to musical expression. The guitarists of Roman Street are internationally trained and seek to incorporate their travel experiences into their music. The band as a whole creates a unique sound by blending old styles and techniques with a modern twist, and conversely, giving modern music styles a historical elegance. The result is a style that is ageless in its appeal; a juxtaposition of the new and the traditional that has something for every music lover.

Silent Auction: The silent auction will have many interesting items ranging from original artwork to guided fishing trips in the Gulf to a fabulous trip to an exciting destination. A detailed list will be included with the invitation.

Dauphin Island Sea Lab Foundation Mission: The Dauphin Island Sea Lab Foundation (DISLF) supports the Sea Lab in its mission to provide wise stewardship of the marine environment through education and research. The Foundation does this by providing funds to sustain the activities of the Sea Lab; promoting awareness of the Sea Lab and its environmental issues; and funding the George Crozier Endowment.

The Sea Lab is the marine laboratory for the State of Alabama. It serves all twenty-one institutions of higher learning as well as hosting programs from k5-12th grade. The educational component is an important facet but the excellent, nationally acclaimed research aspect has been highlighted in the wake of the Deep Water Horizon oil spill disaster. The DISL scientists will help lead the way in the recovery of our Gulf and surrounding waters.
