Dr. Ruth Carmichael, Senior Marine Scientist, Dauphin Island Sea Lab (DISL),and Assistant Professor of Marine Sciences, University of South Alabama (USA), received a $39,307 grant from the Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries under traditional Section 6 of US Fish & Wildlife Service for Population Ecology of West Indian Manatees in Alabama Waters.
Dr. Just Cebrian, Senior Marine Scientist, DISL, and Associate Professor of Marine Sciences, USA, has recently received several grants, including:
- $130,000 from the National Coastal Data Development Center (NOAA) for Impacts of Human Watershed Occupation on Coastal Ecosystem Integrity.
- $80,000 from the Northern Gulf Institute for Integrated Ecosystem Assessment.
- $350,000 from EPA-GOMP for Development of a Decision-Support Tool to Assess the Risk of Habitat Degradation Following Watershed Land Use Changes
Dr. Cebrian and Dr. Ken Heck, Chief Marine Scientist, DISL, and Professor of Marine Sciences, USA, have also received $74,000 from the Shelby Center/NMFS for The Impact of Seagrass Loss on the Potential Yield of Coastal Fisheries in the Northern Gulf of Mexico.
Dr. Cebrian was invited to give a talk at Universidad de Alicante, Spain on “Changes in aquatic primary producers due to nutrient enrichment: consequences for the food webs.” Dr. Heck was also invited to the same university to give a talk on “Seagrass meadows: a global crisis for coastal nursery grounds.”
Dr. John Valentine, Chair of Univeristy Programs, DISL and Professor of Marine Sciences, USA, received a 3-year, $258,552 grant from the National Science Foundation for REU Site: Undergraduate Research Experiences in Coastal and Nearshore Marine Systems of the Northeastern Gulf of Mexico. |
